Architectural Approach to Designing with Clients

Salter Pilon is a family of like-minded building enthusiasts that contribute in a meaningful and responsible way to the built environment, creating community spaces and lifestyle places that transform and enrich lives.
Our close-knit team has the experience and knowledge to lead collaborative architectural design with those working to positively enhance architecture for their communities and ours.

>Our firm’s approach is based on five principles: collaboration, reliability, creativity, adaptability, and passion. Our success is due to the harmonious culture of our team that exude these principles. We bring together experienced creators and innovative designers in a team-first environment. As individuals, we are passionate about our work. As a team, we are dedicated to providing reliable service on every project.

As designers, we are fueled by our passion for creating something new. To effectively turn our client’s vision into reality, we apply innovative solutions that are informed by our extensive experience and derived from our position at the leading edge of architectural discovery. The most conclusive tool we apply to every project challenge is our creativity.

Transformative Architecture

Our team strives for transformation design with an inclusive human-centered and interdisciplinary approach to discovery and problem solving. Supporting our clients in their construction endeavors we nurture design-led solutions to their challenges and projected building opportunities of a future place.

We design for people. To engage in a comprehensive understanding of the owner group’s desired user experiences within architectural spaces, we incorporate storytelling narratives that explore the major components of a design intent. This draws on deep-rooted sentiments about a project, clarifies and reinforces the project’s goals, and provides an overall guide for the entire project team to understand project priorities.

A common theme in our project delivery method is community engagement sessions combined with visioning sessions with core stakeholder groups of the proposed built environment. This has regularly created connectivity between these groups and our integrated design team to open new doors and develop autonomous functional spaces for the wellness of occupants.

Inception to Completion

Salter Pilon Architecture is a full service architectural and interior design firm that specializing in broader public sector procurement design requirements (Healthcare, Education, Senior Living, and Civic). We provide owner groups with practical guidance and framework for enhancing the outcomes of design for lean operational performance and for evaluation of selection criteria that benefit their budgets, building resilience and sustainable implementation targets.

Our commitment to our clients’ successes, sees prioritization of ongoing in-house value engineering throughout the design process, as we understand the urgency of cost and schedule controls to achieve funding milestones and budget objectives.

During the construction phase of a project, our contract administrators encourage the same collaborative environment for contractors to build trustworthy relationships with open communication for the complex projects we undertake together.

The holistic approach we take in design is reflected in our interdisciplinary project management practices, from inception to completion for all of our client partners.

Inclusive by Nature

Our firm has long been fostering the design of engaging spaces that bring people together in harmonious environments.

With education architecture being the central division since our Firm’s inception in 1960, we truly understand the connection between a built environment and human experience.

As the firm grew into the healthcare space, we assimilated key characteristics that encourage wellness with careful integration of architecture and nature through biophilic environments and sustainable landscapes. This wellness encouragement was seen through mass timber in Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Center and refined this with timber structures sculpted into trees holding a canopy in Credit Valley Hospital.

Today, we continue to culminate the inclusive culture of Canada with organic design formation being driven by inherently diverse groups to create accessible buildings for equitable, flexible, simple and intuitive use.
